Whistling Duck Vineyards & Winery is a quaint, Texas country winery and tasting room nestled at the edge of one of our vineyards outside of Weimar, Texas. We are located a little “off-the-beaten-path”, but once you arrive, we hope you’ll sit back, relax and enjoy the laid-back and fun atmosphere of our little piece of the Texas countryside.
Our vision for Whistling Duck Vineyards & Winery is the careful blending of nature, fine wine, friendly Texas hospitality, and a tranquil country setting where the most sophisticated wine drinkers and those who have never even tasted wine can come to sample our wines, relax, have fun, and feel like they’re part of our family.
Our slogan at Whistling Duck Vineyards & Winery is “Porch Sittin’, Wine Sippin’, Country Trippin’ – FUN!”
Whistling Duck Vineyards began operations in 2007 with the planting of 50 test vines at our 17 acre family farm in Weimar, Texas, and so began our labor of love. The vineyards were planted and maintained by the original six founders of Whistling Duck Vineyards — Stan & Mary Beth Johnson, John & Kari Cooke and Brent & Brenna Frazier. Brent and Brenna are also family members who were interested in the grape growing process.
In the Spring of 2009, we expanded our vineyard operation to the Cross-Timbers Eco Region in Dublin, Texas, with the planting of 700 vines on a 55 acre family member farm. This farm was originally used for raising a small number of cattle and growing vegetables and a fruit orchard. Because this northern location is not as susceptible to Pierce’s Disease and can better support viniferous, or European varietals, we chose to plant Tempranillo and Viognier varietal grape vines. We have expanded our Dublin vineyard operation and now have 2.75 acres of grapes.
